Installation
Mount & Connect the Antennas
Step 1
Mount the MAIN and AUX cellular antennas a minimum of 4” apart, in a covert/discreet location near the top of the ATM.
Position the MAIN cellular antenna, closest to the power port (pictured above), in the most ideal position and ensure both the MAIN and AUX antennas are mounted vertically with the tops of the antennas pointing upward.
Note: The SMA connectors center pin on the cellular antenna cables are male.
Step 2
Mount the WiFi antenna a minimum of 4” away from the MAIN and AUX cellular antennas, in a covert/discreet location near the top of the ATM.
Note: The WiFi antenna is used for location triangulation only when GPS is unavailable NOT to provide network access. The RP-SMA connector center of the WiFi antenna cable is female.
Step 3
Mount the GPS antenna, ensuring it is a minimum of 4” away from the MAIN, AUX, and WiFi antennas.
Ensure the top of the GPS antenna, which features the word “GLONASS” is facing upward towards the sky.
Note: If unable to mount GPS antenna to a metal surface using its magnetic mount, use the adhesive strip (provided), first cleaning the area with the alcohol cleaning pad (provided).
For optimal signal strength, mount the antennas free of metal enclosures and away from any electronics or other metallic objects that may cause signal interference.
Step 4
Feed each of the antenna cables through the media ports to the most secure location within the devices enclosure, where the Hercules Shield will be placed (recommended for security purposes).
Step 5
Connect the antennas to the Hercules Shield by screwing the connectors into the antenna jacks (hand tight).
Ethernet & Interface Cables
Step 1
Connect the ATM’s Ethernet cable to Ethernet Port #1 of the Hercules Shield.
Note: Ethernet Port #2 may be used for multi-service support (e.g. ad topper) or failover to Ethernet via the local area network (LAN) if available. If you plan on using Ethernet Port #2, please contact DPL’s support team to ensure it is a supported configuration.
Step 2
Connect the interface cable into the Hercules Shield interface
port and tighten the jack screws (hand tight).
Door Sensors
For ease of installation, the ends of the door switch cables and interface cable connectors are colour coded white and the door switch cables are labelled Door1 and Door2.
Step 1
Mount the sensor magnets to the swing side of the two doors to be monitored using the adhesive strips (provided).
Step 2
Mount the door sensor switch cables opposite the sensor magnets, using the adhesive strip (provided), 1/4” apart when the doors are closed (maximum 1/2” apart).
Step 3
Connect the door sensor switch cables to the door sensor cable connectors on the interface cable (see image below).
Note: Mounting the door sensor switch and sensor magnet more than a ½” apart may result in false door open alerts.
When powered on and the door sensors are less than a ½” apart, the door LED above the interface port on the front of the Hercules Shield will be green. When any door is open (or more than a ½” apart the door LED will be red and a door open alert will be triggered.
Note: The Hercules Shield supports up to (3) door sensors. Contact DPL to purchase a third door sensor if desired.
Vibration Sensor
For ease of installation the vibration sensor cable and the interface cable connector feature yellow shrink wrap at the ends.
Step 1
If not already applied, adhere the 2” x ½” Velcro adhesive strip to the flat side of the vibration sensor.
Step 2
Adhere the 2” x 2” Velcro adhesive strip to a vertical surface inside the ATM’s safe.
Step 3
Mount the vibration sensor to the vertical surface inside the ATM’s safe by connecting the Velcro on the sensor to the Velcro inside the ATM (connect the Velcro pieces you prepared in Steps 1 & 2).
Note: Vibration sensor orientation affects sensitivity. Test to verify.
Vertical = High Sensitivity Horizontal = Medium Sensitivity Upside Down = Low Sensitivity |
Step 4
Connect the switch end of the vibration sensor cable into the vibration connector of the interface cable (yellow).
When connected and no vibration is detected the vibration LED will be green. When tilting or vibration is detected the vibration LED will be red.
Note: The vibration sensor must be installed for theft in progress alerts to be successfully triggered.
Connecting the AC Adapter
Step 1
Screw the Hercules Shield’s AC power adapter into the power port of the Hercules Shield (hand tight) and then plug the other end of the AC adapter into a power source (surge protector recommended).
Note: Do NOT plug the Hercules Shield into a backup battery power source (UPS). Doing so will prevent the power cut alert from being triggered.
Step 2
Verify the Hercules Shield is successfully powered on by observing whether the power LED is green.
Verify Connectivity
Step 1
Verify that the Hercules Shield has established a successful internet connection by observing that the DPL LED is green. Initially, the 4 cellular service LED’s will flash, indicating the device is attempting to establish a wireless internet connection. Once a wireless connection is established, the cellular service will display the signal strength level by illuminating some or all of the cellular service LED’s.
Note: The Hercules Shield only needs 1 out of 4 cellular service LED’s to be green in order to successfully maintain a wireless connection and process transactions. Once a wireless connection is established it may take a couple of minutes for the DPL and network LED’s to illuminate.
Secure the Hercules Shield
To prevent tampering, secure the Hercules Shield by placing it inside the ATM’s safe.
