Pooled Data Plans
Selecting a pooled data plan should be considered for Hercules modems that support high data use applications such as Bitcoin ATMs (BTMs), interactive teller machines (ITMs), ATM deployments that include high data usage auxiliary devices such as video toppers, and ATMs with a persistent connection (FI).
DPL offers several pooled data plan sizes. To find out which pooled data plan is best for you, please speak with your DPL sales representative or reseller.
How Pooled Data Plans Work
Devices on pooled data plans are combined, allowing them to share the total combined data cap. For example, 10 devices, each on their own 1GB/month pooled plan, share a combined data cap of 10GB/month. As the number of devices on pooled data plans increases or decreases, the combined data cap automatically scales up and down.
Benefits of Pooled Data Plans
Pooled data plans are designed to reduce the potential for overage charges that could occur from unexpected data usage within a billing period. Using the example above, imagine if 1 of the 10 devices exceeded their 1GB/month pooled data plan by 500MB. Assuming some of the 9 remaining devices are beneath their 1GB/month pooled data plan, the 500MB will simply contribute towards the 10GB combined data cap rather than resulting in overage charges.
Viewing Data Usage in the Hercules Portal
To view pooled data plan use, log in to the Hercules Portal and scroll down to the Fleet Pooled Data Use section of the Fleet Dashboard.
Horizontal Yellow Line = Pooled Data Cap
Green = Data Usage
Red = Overages
Opaque Green with Diagonal Dashes = Projected Data Usage
Opaque red with diagonal Dashes = Projected Data Overages
To view additional details mouse over (desktop) or tap (mobile) the billing period of interest.
Viewing Single Device Data Usage
To view a single devices pooled data use, select the device from the Device List, navigate to the Settings tab of the Device Dashboard and scroll down to the Data Usage section.
To view additional details mouse over (desktop) or tap (mobile) the billing period of interest.
Overages
Pooled data plans that exceed their combined data cap within a billing period will incur overage charges at the rate defined by their billing plan.
Invoices
Data usage details are included with each invoice. Under the "Client Asset ID" column you'll see an entry similar to the following for each pooled plan in your account:
POOL_I(3.00G)U(3.16G)O(160.98M)
I = Included data: This is the total size of the data pool ("Data Cap" in the Hercules portal).
U = Used data: This is the total amount of data consumed by all the devices in the pool ("Total Usage" in the Hercules portal).
O = Overage: This is the amount of data used above the Included data.
