Optimizing Hercules Signal Strength Levels
To optimize signal strength levels at the ATM both Hercules antennas (MAIN & AUX) should be used and the MAIN antenna (located closest to the power jack) should be placed in the most ideal position.
The two antennas should also be:
- Mounted vertically (antenna pointing up)
- Positioned a minimum of 4” apart
- Free from metal enclosures
- Away from electronics and other objects that may cause signal interference (pumps/generators/neon signage)
If an ATM location is experiencing difficulty maintaining connectivity due to poor signal strength levels, it may be due to the building materials used at the location. In these instances antenna extension cables can be used to locate antennas in a more optimal location and/or high-gain antennas can be used to increase signal strength levels.
Cellular Congestion at Large Events
ATMs often begin dropping transactions at large events due to the high number of cellphones attempting to communicate over a limited number of nearby cell towers. If you're experiencing dropped transactions at or near a large event, contact DPL support to request DPL's Beacon feature be enabled temporarily on your Hercules modems to reduce the number of dropped transactions.
